The students at ACD encounter broad and balanced learning experiences that have their roots in the American curriculum. There is a vertical alignment between the sections in our school to ensure a smooth transition between phases.

English is our language of instruction, and so all of our classes are taught in English. The one exception to this is our Albanian Language and Literature classes. These are mandatory for our native Albanian speakers, and form a part of their preparation for the national Matura exams. Over the course of their time with us, non-native Albanian speakers have the opportunity to learn the language of their new country!

Students for whom English is an additional language are supported to develop their English reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills with specialist English teachers in addition to their participation in their usual curriculum. Upon application to the school, candidates’ English language level will be assessed so that we can be sure we place them appropriately into a class.

Middle School Grades 6-8:

Albanian College Durres provides a dynamic and inquiry-based Middle School program where students develop critical thinking, creativity, and independence. Our curriculum, taught entirely in English by highly trained and compassionate educators, fosters both academic excellence and personal growth.

A key feature of our Middle School is our commitment to multilingualism. Students explore world languages, including English, Albanian, German, and Spanish, equipping them with essential skills for a globalized world.

Beyond academics, we offer a diverse selection of extracurricular activities to nurture students’ passions. Our strong arts and physical education programs encourage creative and athletic development. Students also engage in competitive sports through the Tirana Association of International Schools (TAIS) and participate in afterschool programs such as robotics, performing arts, and visual arts.

By providing a well-rounded and engaging experience, our Middle School cultivates confident learners who are prepared for the academic and social challenges of high school and beyond.

High School Grades 9-12:

Albanian College Durres offers a High School program that challenges students academically while fostering personal growth and preparing them for higher education and beyond. Our inquiry-based curriculum, guided by AERO standards and taught in English by dedicated and highly trained educators, emphasizes critical thinking, interdisciplinary learning, and real-world applications. To further enrich their academic experience, students can take Advanced Placement (AP) courses, which offer university-level learning in a supportive environment while complementing the rigor of our other subjects, including the choice of four languages.

Beyond academics, students engage in extracurricular opportunities that promote leadership, collaboration, and personal growth. They compete in sports through the Tirana Association of International Schools (TAIS) and local Albanian competitions, with our championship-winning chess team exemplifying strategic excellence. After School programs in robotics, performing arts, and visual arts further encourage students to explore their talents and develop valuable skills.

With a strong foundation in academic excellence, global awareness, and personal development, our High School empowers students to become responsible, knowledgeable, and internationally-minded citizens, ready to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the world.
